Day 1 of the Canadian Staff Conference 2026 in Halifax is officially underway!
This year’s conference theme, “Making Waves Together,” reflects the power of solidarity and the impact we can achieve when we work together toward a common goal. Just as a wave begins with a single movement and grows stronger as it moves forward, each of us plays a role in creating positive change. While one person alone can make a difference, it is through our collective strength, unity, and shared commitment that we truly make waves and move things forward for our members across Canada.
More than 80 staff members from across Canada, representatives from the International Office, and members of the Executive Council came together for learning, collaboration, and engagement.
The conference opened with remarks from IAM Canada General Vice-President David Chartrand, Chief of Staff Ralph Martin, International President Brian Bryant, and General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes.
Participants then heard insightful presentations from Lucie Morillon, Communications Representative, who spoke about website management initiatives and upcoming projects, followed by Julie Frietchen, Director of the W3 Center, on training and educational programs, and Roya Rismankar, Senior Research Analyst for the Canadian Office, on AI and the Future of Work.
The day wrapped up with an interactive IAM Trivia session led by Comms Representative Vanessa Breidy, putting attendees’ IAM knowledge to the test!
Thank you to all our speakers, attendees, organizers, International Office staff, and Executive Council members for contributing to a successful first day.
