Prevention Link Training – Return to Work (RTW)

The Prevention Link Training on Return to Work (RTW), held on April 28, 2026, at the IBEW Local 353 Training Centre in Mississauga, delivered valuable and practical insights into effective injury management and reintegration strategies. The session highlighted the importance of early intervention, clear communication, and strong collaboration between workers, employers, and union representatives to support safe and sustainable returns to work.

The content was especially relevant for healthcare workers in the community, where many members of Local 1231 face workplace hazards due to the physical demands of the job and unpredictable working conditions. The training reinforced the importance of proper incident reporting, access to modified duties, and ongoing support systems to help reduce the risk of re-injury and support recovery.

Central Chair, Susanna Duncan’s Report : As a Central Chair involved in Return to Work meetings with the employer, this training further strengthened my ability to advocate effectively on behalf of our members. It deepened my understanding of best practices, legislative considerations, and the importance of ensuring fair, consistent, and worker-centred RTW processes.
Overall, the session was highly informative and directly applicable to both frontline work and union representation. Thank you to our Business Representative, Ben Osakue, and President, Merry St. Bernard, for making it possible for our team to attend
