This past February, the Central Chair of IAM Local 1231, Susanna Duncan, hit the ground running, making direct visits to Personal Support Workers (PSWs) in York and connecting with both PSWs and Nurses across Peel Region.
The outreach was a reminder of what union membership looks like in action — a familiar face on the floor, an open ear, and real support when it matters. Members welcomed the opportunity to raise workplace concerns, ask questions, and get the answers they needed, directly from their union representative.
This kind of hands-on engagement is at the heart of what Local 1231 stands for: making sure no member feels alone in their workplace and that every voice has somewhere to go.
