On Saturday July 13th, 2024, Local 1231, hosted their annual picnic at West Deane Park in Etobicoke in appreciation of their members. It was a great turnout with around 200 members and their families showing up for the festivities. The annual picnic is an excellent way for members to socialize and mingle, considering that the nature of their job in the community setting, causes them to be dispersed and most often than not working alone. The fun filled event was a great opportunity to connect with fellow union members and their families. Those couple of hours that they were together saw smiles, laughter and enjoyment. The members were treated to a delicious barbecue and refreshing drinks and according to the general consensus, it was finger-licking good! The Social Committee and Women’s Committee planned exciting games and activities for all age groups like ladder ball, sack races, spoon and egg race and corn hole. As a special treat, children and adults had their faces painted, which brought great big smiles all around. There were also fantastic giveaways and prizes for the various games and events.
The picnic ran seamlessly, largely due to the hard work and dedication put in by the Social Committee and Women’s Committee. Kudos to them! Also a special thanks to the young volunteers who did a marvellous job, and as a bonus, put in the hours for their school volunteer program.
Canadian GVP Dave Chartrand, made a special appearance and generously sponsored a raffle for members. Also present was Canadian Special Rep Kim Valliere and her family, Territorial Organizing Leader Scott Jackson, Business Representative Ben Osakue, Business Representative Vivianne Simon and District Business Representative Eric Johnson from District 78..
It was great to see members take a break from work and come together to celebrate our Union’s solidarity and community.
A special thanks to our dear members who joined us at the annual picnic. We are so pleased that you attended and made it a huge success. We hope to see you all again next year!
