Communication hub! Who wants to learn…?

The leadership of Local Lodge 1231 decided that timely and efficient communication is an important part of how our local should operate.

For this reason, our Communicator and Web Steward, Jamillah Wyllie took part in a two day training at the IAMAW District Lodge 78 offices to learn how to use WordPress to develop our website.Frank Saptel, Territorial Communications Representative for Canada, delivered the training and covered many topics including:
Writing skills – how to write a good informative story captivating your audience and holding their attention by writing using the active voice and catchy headlines.

We also talked about using great photos and graphics relevant to our work environment as well as where to get relevant labour-related content and other issues affecting our working lives.

By utilizing links to the IAM international site and the IAM Canadian site we can keep up-to-date with what is going on in the wider union.

This training was relevant as it discussed the value of involving everyone in the Local Lodge and encouraging member feedback.

“Due to the nature of the business at Spectrum Health Care, communications through social media will be a key component to keeping our members informed. In addition to Local Lodge monthly meetings, we need to ensure our members at Spectrum receive current and timely information. The IAMAW, along with your Local Lodge Communicator Jamillah Wyllie, will continually give you the information you need when you need it.”

Ralph Martin, Grand Lodge Representative

With the new updates you can now access your webmail directly from the website as well as contact your local stewards. As a new feature I would like to profile a new member each month on the website so if you have anything of interest you would like to share please contact me.
